It’s heresomewhere.com

I have just experienced the frustration of searching around for a collection of passport photographs that I know I saw only a week or so ago but which have now disappeared off the face of the planet. This is not an altogether uncommon occurrence for me and it possibly others of you out there are sometimes in the same boat. To solve this problem I propose a web site!

It’s heresomewhere.com would be a simple site. You wouldn’t even need to create an account to get started; it could just utilise a cookie on your computer. Basically, it would be a list of items and their locations. You’d need to quickly be able to write down the name of an object and a location. Perhaps some sort of smart Ajax typing prediction thing could be utilised so that you could quickly enter locations you often used. In future, when you go back looking for whatever it was that you were searching for, you could just check the location via the web site. Easy!

It occurs to me the biggest stumbling block would be getting people to remember to write down the locations of things. Perhaps some sort of widget/gadget could be created to interface with the web site so people wouldn’t need to load up the site. It’d be neat if you could do it quickly from your phone. I suppose if the iPhone supports widgets then that would be a way to reach those people at least.

Not quite sure how this would make any money yet. But at least it would relieve my frustration. That’s got to be worth something.
