Making coComment Work
I wrote almost a month ago about a service called coComment. At the time I found it almost a great service, my main complaint being that there was no way to set blacklists for certain domains (eg. LiveJournal) so that it wouldn’t bother tracking those comments.
Well I wrote two posts about this on the coComment support forums, the latter basically saying that I was stopping my use of the service because nothing was being done about what seemed like a ludicrously simple problem (ie. expand the blacklisting feature to blacklist domains not just certain pages). The latter comment was deleted, much to my annoyance, and for a while I really did stop using the service altogether.
But the problem that coComment solves is real and I found myself once again getting frustrated at having to go back and check Blogger or Wordpress blogs to make sure no one had left a comment after mine. In the end I was about to give back in when I noticed on the coComment tools page the bookmarklet feature.
Well come in, spinner. Although it’s not quite what I want it’s easy enough to use. You save the bookmarklet in your bookmarks and just click it when you want to turn on coComment. This has the bonus effect of not sitting there sucking up RAM and sending every page you go to back to coComment HQ (which was a bit of a worry for me). Sure, sometimes you forget to turn it on but you can always enable comment tracking even if you’ve already posted by clicking the same bookmark so it’s no big deal.
So yes, I’m back with coComment. It’s still the best service I’ve found so far to this problem and it’s enabling me to once again take part in blog conversations outside of the confines of this one.
Hooray, I’m sure you’re all thinking.
